Motor scooters are everywhere in Italy. They weave in and out of traffic and around pedestrians like a bug – which is why Piaggio calls its brand “Vespa,” the Italian word for wasp. Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck made the two-wheeled vehicle famous in the movie Roman Holiday as theater-goers watched the characters explore Rome on this trendy bike. Unprecedented public interest soon boomed around the world. In honor of the 60th anniversary of the release of Roman Holiday Bici & Baci on Via Cavour has created a Vespa exhibit chronicling the models through the years. Entrance is free, just pop downstairs to view Vespas and Lambrettas from 1946 to today. This is heaven for motor scooter enthusiasts. The store also has all the Vespa merchandise a buff could want: t-shirts, bags, coffee mugs, models and more.
Bici & Baci believe the best way to see Rome is on two wheels. They offer bicycle and scooter rentals in all sizes with hourly, daily and weekly rates. Helmets are included in the rental fees. They also organize bike and scooter tours, with a variety of itineraries available. Check them out on your next visit to Rome!
