Floral Displays for the Feast of Saints Peter and Paul mark the celebration of the patron saints of Rome. It is believed that the tradition was started by Benedetto Drei, head of the Vatican Floreria, and his son Peter, on the feast on June 29, 1625. This morning the artists were busy at work putting the finishing touches on the artwork. The pictures are created with fresh and dried flowers, colored sawdust and colored crystallized salt. The art will be on display for the next several days outside of St Peter’s Square, at Piazza Pio XII.
